Use Air Purification To Control Indoor Air Quality

Poor air quality not only makes your home less comfortable but it also negatively affects your health. Airborne particles aggravate symptoms associated with asthma and allergies, and can lead to respiratory complications. Thankfully, air purifiers give you the ability to maintain your home’s indoor air quality. Air purification systems work by running the air through a filter – which catches airborne particles – and reintroducing the scrubbed air back into your home.

There are two main types of air purification systems, portable or single-room units and whole-house models. Each type of air purification system has negative and positive aspects that should be taken into consideration before the purchase.

Portable units can be moved from location to location when needed. They are less expensive than whole house units but tend to take up otherwise needed space and can be an eyesore sticking out of your carefully decorated rooms. Plus, of course, they have a limited coverage area, usually just a single room. Whole-house air purifiers are more expensive than portable units. However, these units provide complete protection from airborne particles and are attached to the HVAC system so the unit is hidden from view.

Air purification systems are not the only way you can improve your indoor air quality. Along with effective HVAC filtering, a variety of proven methods will help reduce the total amount of airborne contaminants and pollutants in your indoor air. Maintaining your cooling and heating equipment with yearly preventive maintenance and replacing air filters no less than every three months will help keep your air fresh, clean and healthy.
