These 3 Types of Indoor Air Pollution Demand a Solution

These 3 Types of Indoor Air Pollution Demand a SolutionDo you sneeze a lot or have an allergy that flares up when you’re indoors? Does it seem to be worse in the warmer months or if your pets begin to shed? Or perhaps you seem to develop the symptoms of a cold during the summer months?

If you answered “yes” to any of these, chances are that they can be the result of indoor air pollution in your home. Poor air quality can not only make your home uncomfortable but can have a negative impact on your health. Any airborne particles that invade your home as indoor air pollution can also aggravate health conditions such as allergies and asthma.

The types of indoor pollutants

The types of indoor air pollutants can be categorized into three groups. These are:

  • Particles – These include pet dander, dust, and pollen. Even if your home’s windows are closed, pollen and dust can still make their way inside. Pollutants of this nature measure around 100 microns.
  • Microorganisms and bioaerosols – These feature such pollutants as dust mites, viruses, bacteria, mold spores, and fungi.
  • Odors and chemical vapors – These include volatile chemical compounds, also known as VOCs, paints, cleaning supplies, pet odors, cooking odors, tobacco smoke, and solvents in carpets and furniture.

Solutions for indoor air pollutants

It can be astounding to know just how many pollutants can be in your home. There are different solutions that can resolve this problem. Consider these:

  • Standard and HEPA filters
  • Electrostatic filters
  • Carbon-activated filtration
  • UVGI, also known as Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation

There are also systems that can deal with all three groups of pollutants as well as portable and whole house solutions.
