Ductless Systems: Great for Home Additions

Ductless Systems: Great for Home Additions | NisAirUsing a ductless system to condition a new home addition might be the best option to achieve comfort, energy efficiency, and simple installation. Ductless systems are rapidly becoming the go-to HVAC appliance for space cooling and heating because their energy efficiency and convenient features are hard to match. Here are some of their advantages:

  • A ductless air conditioner or heat pump has the same components of a central system, but instead of requiring ductwork to distribute the air, blows the conditioned air directly into a space. They have no air losses associated with air leakage and thermal losses as the air travels through the ducts.
  • These systems are also known as mini-splits because their outdoor condensers are smaller than those of central systems. The condenser sits outside and houses the compressor. A flexible conduit connects the condenser to an indoor air handler that blows the air directly into a room.
  • Mini-splits often have upgraded components that increases their energy efficiency, like scroll compressors or inverters. Many of these appliances are Energy Star-qualified. Some even have advanced air filtration technology that improves indoor air quality.
  • Larger ductless systems can support up to four air handlers, which gives you the opportunity to extend the system at a later date.
  • A ductless system is easier to install than a ducted system or extending your current HVAC system. The conduit runs through an exterior wall and installers connect it to the air handler and the condenser. The refrigerant has been installed at the factory and the conduit contains the power and drainage for the system.
  • Each air handler has its own thermostat for individual temperature control. If you’re not using the new addition, you can simply turn the system off for even more energy savings. Choosing a ductless heat pump gives you a safe and energy-efficient heat source in the winter.

A ductless system offers many advantages when planning a new space, especially for achieving comfort and energy savings. To learn more, contact NisAir Air Conditioning and Heating, serving Palm Beach, Martin and Indian River counties homeowners.
