Why You Should Care About Air Balancing

Why You Should Care About Air BalancingEver get frustrated over part of your home being too hot while the rest remains too cold for comfort? Then chances are your HVAC system is in need of a little balancing. Air balancing is absolutely crucial if you want to maximize your seasonal comfort by ensuring that conditioned air is distributed throughout your home as evenly as possible.

Air balancing isn’t something that most homeowners usually think about, but there are plenty of reasons why keeping your HVAC system in tune should be one of your top priorities:

  • A balanced HVAC system experiences less wear. Without good balance, it takes more effort for your HVAC system to keep your home comfortable throughout the season. The extra effort adds even more stress on your system, requiring more frequent maintenance while shortening your unit’s lifespan.
  • Your system will use less energy. Without proper balancing, your HVAC system will use more energy just to keep up with your home’s heating and cooling demands. This also takes a bigger bite out of your wallet in the form of increased energy costs.
  • You’ll get better comfort. Air balancing ensures that your home remains as comfortable as possible by eliminating issues that could lead to uneven temperatures.

Having your HVAC system properly balanced is something that should be left up to the professionals. Nevertheless, there still plenty you can do to help improve your indoor comfort:

  • Make sure your doors and windows are sealed tightly against heat loss.
  • Adjust your HVAC system’s vents to redirect warm air towards cooler parts of your home.
  • Don’t hesitate to close off vents in upstairs rooms to prevent overheating.
  • If your home has ceiling fans, set them to run clockwise to distribute warm air into cooler areas.
  • Watch out for signs of negative air pressure in your home, such as constant inward drafts and condensation on your ductwork.
