Thermostat Best Practice for the Fall

Thermostat Best Practice for the FallNot only is the autumn season in Florida absolutely beautiful, it’s also the perfect time for homeowners to make sure their thermostat needs are being met. Let’s take a look at some of the thermostat best practices that you can put into effect right now to make sure your heating and cooling goes off without a hitch this season.

Keep the Temperature Consistent

Since manual thermostats are limited in their functionality, the best way to control your energy usage is to keep the selected temperature of your home consistent. Making changes throughout the day and night could cause your costs to rise.

Make the Switch to a Programmable Model

While manual thermostats certainly get the job done, you simply can’t go wrong with the use of a programmable model. These more advanced thermostats allow you to set the days and times during which your heating or cooling system is in operation, allowing you better control over your energy usage and costs.

Consider a Zoning System

While traditional HVAC systems are clearly effective in maintaining your household’s comfort levels, they’re not very efficient. You may want to consider the installation of a zoning system, which will allow you to condition only those sections that you designate at any given time.

Schedule an HVAC Technician

It’s never a bad idea to have a qualified HVAC technician check out your heating and cooling system at the start of each season. They’ll not only check the system itself, but also your thermostat to ensure that it’s working at peak performance.

Don’t Deviate from the Set Schedule

If you choose a schedule for your HVAC system, but then constantly make changes to that schedule, then you’re negating the advantages of having a programmable thermostat. Before you make any changes, consider either bundling up when it gets a little colder or bringing out the fans when things heat up.
