Start of Winter Issues Your HVAC Might Encounter

Start of Winter Issues Your HVAC Might EncounterEarly winter problems within your household are never fun to deal with, but as a homeowner, it’s your responsibility to make sure everything is taken care of. Here is a short list of issues that you should consider before winter really sets in.

Broken Furnace

Whether it’s strange smells coming from the furnace, noises that you can’t explain, or simply a lack of heat, you definitely don’t want your furnace to shut down during the winter. If you’re experiencing problems, don’t hesitate to call a reputable HVAC technician to take a look at it.

Malfunctioning Carbon Monoxide Detector

Since you’ll be using your furnace throughout the winter months, the danger of carbon monoxide – often labeled as the silent killer – increases. If you don’t already have a CO detector, get one immediately. And if you do have one, be sure to test it and put in new batteries before winter begins.

Broken Thermostat

If you’re having early winter problems with your furnace, a broken thermostat could be the culprit. Replacement isn’t the worst thing in the world, however, because there are very advanced units out on the market that give you greater control over your energy usage.

Dirty Air Filter

If the air filter is dirty before winter begins, then your heating system won’t be able to properly warm up your household and more dangerous particulates will contaminate your air. The system’s filter should be checked every 1-3 months and either changed or replaced if it’s dirty.

Unclean Air

When your air is unclean, the chances of someone getting sick increases. This is especially true with household members who suffer from respiratory issues. You can help clean the air by replacing or cleaning the aforementioned air filter, dusting with microfiber cloths, and running an air cleaner whenever possible.
