Ensure You Are Spring Ready: Check for A/C Repairs

Ensure You Are Spring Ready: Check for A/C RepairsIn Florida, we rely on our air conditioners most of the year. If you’ve had yours off over the cooler months but are getting ready to turn it back on, you may want to give it a trial run to be sure it’s cooling properly. And even if everything seems to be working right and your house cools down just fine, you still want to schedule spring maintenance to have your licensed technician check everything out so you’ll know if you need any A/C repairs.

Here are some things to look out for in regards to A/C repairs:

1. Is the A/C cooling the home uniformly?

If you have hot spots in the house, it could be vents are blocked or there’s a problem with the ductwork. If the house isn’t cooling down to the right temperature, it could be anything from a refrigerant leak to a dirty air filter to a failing compressor. Your HVAC technician can help you find the cause.

2. Are dripping sounds coming from inside the A/C?

This is likely caused by a clogged condensate drain. The drain has to be cleared out occasionally with bleach and water.

3. Does the airflow seem diminished from last time the unit turned on?

A dirty air filter can cause the A/C to struggle with airflow. Change the filter and see if this helps. Leaking or disconnected ducts may also be to blame.

4. Does the air conditioner run continuously?

It could be your A/C is sized too small and can’t reach the temperature set points. When you replace your A/C, be sure the consultant uses HVAC software to properly size the new unit. In the meantime, try adding insulation and sealing air leaks in the home. The opposite condition is called short cycling, when the unit turns on and off continuously, which happens when it has too much capacity.
