Get Your Home Maintenance for November Done in 5 Easy Steps

Since November is somewhat of a transition period between the calm months of fall and the cold months of winter, it is the perfect time to perform home maintenance. To help you out, here are five easy steps for you to follow:

1. Schedule an HVAC System Check

To keep your HVAC equipment running smoothly, it is important that you schedule a maintenance check-up at least once per year. Since November is just prior to the cold season, it’s the perfect time to get your heating system serviced so you can avoid any potential problems.

2. Check Your Smoke and CO Detectors

Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors do a great job of keeping your family safe in the event of a fire or a gas leak, so check them out before you begin using your heating equipment. If you even think that one is not functioning at peak performance, replace the unit ASAP.

3. Test Out Your Heating Equipment

Even though it’s best to call a qualified technician to perform maintenance on your heating equipment, the first thing you should do is switch it on and see if it seems to be operating properly. When the technician arrives, you can explain to him or her any problems such as strange smells or noises.

4. Ensure Proper Insulation

Proper insulation within your home is absolutely imperative as a way to keep the heat inside and avoid wasting energy. Adding insulation to your home isn’t typically too tough, but it’s a good idea to hire a technician for the job so that you can make sure enough is being added.

5. Install a Zoning System

Traditional heating systems are simply not very efficient, because they force you to heat your entire home even if rooms are unoccupied. If you want to effectively tackle winter weather, the installation of a zoning system, which allows you to heat only the areas that you select, is a fantastic solution.
