Here’s How to Control Pollutants in Your Home

Here's How to Control Pollutants in Your HomeHousehold pollutants trigger allergies and respiratory difficulties for even healthy individuals regardless of your cleaning regimen. Add these tasks to your Florida housekeeping rituals and enjoy healthier indoor air.

Service Major Appliances Annually

Just like your car needs regular maintenance to reduce emissions, your home appliances (air conditioner, furnace, heat pump, or hot water heater) need regular service to reduce the pollutants in your home, like mold, dust, carbon monoxide, etc.

Wash Bedding in Hot Water

Dust mites create all kinds of indoor health hazards. Keep them at bay by washing your sheets and blankets in hot water routinely. They can’t survive the heat and you’ll breath easier at night.

Open a Window

Crack a window ever so often to refresh the oxygen levels in your home and allow the carbon dioxide to escape. Keeping your home too closed up to stay warm in the winter or cool in the summer can backfire with unhealthy air.

Reconsider Candles

Many homeowners use the fragrant aroma of candles to provide a comfortable environment. The problem with candles is that they release particulates, too. If someone in your household is particularly sensitive to respiratory problems, get rid of the candles altogether. Use them sparingly and away from air vents otherwise.
