How to Get Your HVAC Unit Ready for Spring

Even though the nights may still be cold as the winter season comes to a close, it’s time to look forward to what you can do to help maintain your home’s comfort level in the spring. We’re going to help you kick off the new season by giving you a few spring HVAC-maintenance tips to help you prepare your equipment.

Call a Qualified Technician for a Tuneup

You should schedule a tuneup for your air-conditioning system with an HVAC technician at least once per year. Since you’ll be using the equipment throughout the spring and summer seasons, now is the perfect time to set up an appointment.

Change the Air Filter

There’s a good chance that you didn’t change the filter before you stopped using the AC in either the summer or fall, so now is the perfect time. After that, you should check the filter each month and replace it as needed.

Update the Thermostat Setting

At the start of every season, you should check your thermostat settings and adjust them accordingly. You may need to do this a few times before the weather warms up and the new season gets closer. This will help prevent your heating system from coming on needlessly.

Clean Up the Outdoor Unit

There’s a very good chance that the winter season wasn’t too kind to your system’s outdoor unit. In order to prevent any negative impact to how your air-conditioning system operates, be sure to remove any debris on or around the unit.

Upgrade Your AC Equipment

Air conditioning equipment is designed to stay in operation for several years, but after a decade or so, it will begin to show its age and not work as well. If your system is more than 10 years old or has been giving you problems in the past few years, then it might be time to upgrade to a more advanced, energy-efficient model.
