Learn Tips That Will Help You With AC Troubleshooting

When your air conditioning starts acting up during the summer, it’s important to find out what’s wrong as quickly as you can. The sooner you determine the cause of your AC problem, the sooner you can have it fixed. The following AC troubleshooting tips can help you figure out why your HVAC system isn’t working right.

Check Your Thermostat Setting

If your thermostat is set to “heat” or on the “fan” setting, you won’t feel any cool air coming out of your vents. As part of your AC troubleshooting, you should take a look at your thermostat to make sure it’s on the right setting. This provides a simple way to get your HVAC working again so your home stays cool.

Replace Thermostat Batteries

A thermostat with dead batteries won’t work, which prevents your air conditioning from coming on. If you have a thermostat that runs on batteries, put in a fresh set to see if your AC starts running. Some thermostats feature a flashing notice that the batteries need to be replaced.

Change the Air Filter

If your AC isn’t working at all or if it’s not cooling your home enough, check the air filter. A dirty air filter can prevent your AC from working properly. You should put a new air filter in your HVAC system on a regular basis, since these filters become filled with dust, pet dander, and other kinds of debris.

Make Sure Vents Are Open

Check the air vents in your home to make sure they aren’t closed, which blocks cool air from coming into different rooms or areas. You should keep air vents open to help cool your home evenly.

Reset Circuit Breakers

Check circuit breakers in your home to see if your HVAC system tripped any. Reset the circuit breaker as needed.
